Mom's Spaghetti Sauce


1 1/2 lbs. hamburger
1 medium onion chopped
1 bell pepper chopped
2 c. mushrooms sliced
2 cloves minced garlic (or you can use 1 tsp. garlic salt, or garlic powder)

In a large saucepan, cook meat and vegetables until brown and tender. Drain.
Add the following ingredients.

3 16 oz. cans tomatoes chopped and skinned
1 6 oz. can tomato paste
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. dried oregano 
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/2 t. dried thyme
1 bay leaf
1 to 2 cups water depending on desired thickness

Bring to a boil and reduce the heat.  Let simmer on low heat for two hours or until desired consistency, stirring occasionally.  Remove bayleaf. Serve over hot spaghetti.
