Grandma Cherrie's Raisin Cookies

2 c. raisins
1 c. water
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
1 t. salt
1 t. soda
1 t. baking powder
1 1/2 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. nutmeg
8 c. flour 
1 c. walnuts

Boil raisins in water, for 5 min. Allow to cool. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Add remaining ingredients. Bake at 350 for 10-12 min.
